The Cape Town City Pass is generous — but a bit of planning makes a big difference. The most common complaint in reviews isn't the pass itself, it's that travellers missed the Cableway maintenance window or didn't know that some tours like Hermanus only run on selected weekdays. This page solves all of that.

Best time to visit

Cape Town's seasons are flipped relative to Europe. Summer is November to March, winter is June to August.

November – February · peak summer
Warmest weather, busiest attractions, longest daylight. Reserve premium experiences 3–4 days ahead.
March – May · autumn shoulder
Still warm, fewer crowds, beautiful light for the Winelands. Great pass value — many travellers' favourite.
June – August · winter
Cooler and wetter, but whale watching season opens. Some Xplorer tours (Hermanus, Sunset Bus) only run on selected weekdays in winter.
September – October · spring
Wildflowers, whale watching peak, mild temperatures. Excellent month for the Premium Pass.

Table Mountain Cableway — annual maintenance

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway closes once a year for safety inspections. In 2026 the closure is Monday 27 July to Sunday 9 August. If your trip falls in this window, you have two good options:

The exact dates shift by a few days each year — always check the operator's site close to your trip.
